Styling for Britmums Live 2015

I was recently lucky enough to attend one of the biggest blogging conferences in the UK – Britmums Live 2015.

I had the opportunity to meet many blogging pals that I had virtually met during the last 18 months of my blogging life.  It was a joyful experience being able to converse with all of the blogging talent I’ve come across in person, or live, should I say?

As well as getting to meet fellow bloggers, I had the opportunity to attend talks, meet brands and PRs and generally network.  And let’s face it, who doesn’t enjoy a good networking opportunity?

Naturally, there was much attention on styling.  It’s always enjoyable getting a lovely outfit together for an event, and Britmums was no exception.

Normally a fan of bright colours and florals, as well as a lot of black, I went against my normal choices and opted to wear white.

I had recently discovered a brilliantly affordable clothing brand in New Look called Blue Vanilla after purchasing one of their dresses in store.

I loved the fit so much that I went on to purchase another of their dresses in store for a wedding.  Needing a(nother) frock for Britmums Live, I headed straight for their website to see what they had to offer.

Danika Cream Lace camisole dress

So on day one I wore this lacy cream camisole dress paired with tan, heeled sandals from New Look.  This was the dress I had bought a few weeks previously in New Look.  I am a sucker for lace and thought that the dress looked rather pretty.  It fit so well and I loved it straight away.

On day two I wore a white lacy number with an open lace detail at the waist.  This dress fit beautifully and was super comfortable.  Again, more lace – I love lace – perhaps I was in a bridal mood?!  I wore the tan sandals with this dress once again.

These dresses were an absolute bargain at under £30 each – nothing worse than breaking the bank in the name of fashion.  Well, not all the time, at least!

On both days, I teamed my white/cream lacy frocks with some stunning jewellery from British brand OAK Jewellery.

I had a 34 inch chain which I adorned with several charms.  On day one, I wore the chain long with the Original Dreamcatcher in silver, the Amazing Dreams charm in silver, The Happiness Feather in white (coming soon!), The Friendship Feather in yellow gold vermeil and The Moonshine Pendant in rose gold vermeil (coming soon!).

Ok, I realise that is a LOT of bling all on one chain.  The girls gave me a selection of charms to pick from, and I basically couldn’t choose just one or two, so opted for the lot.  My bling, my rules!

I also wore the standout Dream Big drop earrings in silver, which I’ve written about before (because they are just that beautiful).

On day two I wore one of my favourite pairs of drop earrings, the My Heart Spins drops in rose gold vermeil.  I also wore all of the charms again, but styled them with a layered look by doubling the chain over.  It created the look of having two pendants and showed off the charms a little better, as they had a bit more space between them!  If you want to see a tutorial on how to create this look, check out my video here.  This is my favourite way to wear OAK’s unique charms, especially with the contrast of different coloured metals.

Needless to say, with all of OAK’s shiny stuff, I felt totally glamorous and special. The pale colours of my dresses were the perfect blank canvas to show off my jewellery.

I’m going to be looking forward to wearing these dresses this summer, complete with my ever-deepening summer complexion.

Thanks to OAK for the superb pieces I wore – you guys seriously rock!

  1. Love the way you have styled your OAK necklaces differently with each of these super cute Blue Vanilla dresses. The Big Dreams dreamcatcher earrings do look so good on you!

    1. Aw, thanks Alice! You know I’m a little obsessed (understatement) with jewellery. I’m also a little obsessed with my white and cream dresses, although I need to be careful with my choices of clothing when I’m around the kids. xx

      1. I always used to avoid white too but last year I got a pair of white skinnies that look good even if I say so myself, and while I usually do reserve them for ‘best’ sometimes I just think ‘Sod it’ and wear them when the children are around. After all what are washing machines and stain remover for!?!

  2. you did look gorgeous on both days and you write really convincingly about fashion and jewellery- it’s clear to see you have a passion for the things you love. It was brilliant getting to know you those two days! Xx

    1. Thanks so much, Sam. I like what I like, and as you know, it varies from shiny metal stuff to stuff with six strings. It was so lovely to meet you that weekend too – very fond memories. I reckon a group get-together of some of the locals would be a great idea to do before the summer is up! xx
